Thiruvinva Dharmarajan, MD FACP AGSF

    Dr. T.S. Dharmarajan is vice-chairman, department of medicine; clinical director, division of geriatrics; director, geriatric medicine fellowship program at Montefiore Medical Center, North Division in Bronx, New York. He is also professor of medicine, New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York, and associate dean (Montefiore Medical Center, North), New York Medical College. He earlier served as chair of the department of medicine at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center for four years.

    Dr. Dharmarajan is certified by the American boards in internal medicine, nephrology and geriatric medicine; he is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, fellow of the American Geriatrics Society and Member, American Society of Nephrology.

    Dr. Dharmarajan was instrumental in developing a 70-bed geriatric medicine program at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center in the Bronx (currently Montefiore Medical Center), over the last decade, with strong clinical, academic and research components, including a fully accredited fellowship program in geriatrics with a complement of eight fellows.

    Dr. Dharmarajan edited the textbook Clinical Geriatrics (CRC Press / Parthenon Publishing) released in 2003. He has over 150 publications in peer reviewed journalsand text books, and over 200 scientific presentations (abstracts) in state, national and international meetings. Currently he is co-editor of another text book Geriatric Gastroenterolgy (Springer), slated for completion this year. His research interests focus primarily in the areas of geriatrics, anticoagulation, nutrition and anemia. He has been a Principal Investigator for several research projects. Besides winning the Howard Gutterman Award for best research project in the Annual AMDA (2006) meeting, he has been a recipient of numerous recognitions and awards in medicine, including: "Teacher of the Year"; "Peer to Peer" recognition by the Bronx County Society; Dedication as Teacher and Mentor to young Physicians in the Bronx (from American Association of Physicians of Indian origin), Unparalleled Leadership in the Medical Community for medicine and research (from the Bronx county Society) and others. Dr. Dharmarajan speaks regularly for CME programs at local, national and international meetings.

    Dr. Dharmarajan was the chair, performance improvement and patient safety committee for 4 years. He serves as the president of the Montefiore North Division Physician Council and as a member of the Montefiore Executive Committee. Earlier, he has served as chair, Quality Improvement Program, for the Catholic Health Care Network, New York, and as a member of the Board of Trustees at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center.
