Dr. Thad F. Waites practices clinical cardiology with emphasis on interventional cardiology. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Cardiology (ACC) and chair-elect of the ACC board of governors. He is also a board member of the Mississippi State Board of Health, and director of the cardiac cath lab at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and interventional cardiologist at the Hattiesburg Clinic.

Dr. Waites is a former flight surgeon with the US Navy Reserve, and graduated from the University of Mississippi Medical School. He completed his internship at Emory University, Grady Hospital, and his medical residency at the University of Colorado. He completed a chief residency at Emory University under Dr. J. Willis Hurst and his cardiology fellowship. He was on the cardiology staff at Ochsner Medical Center in Louisiana, where he was recognized as Teacher of the Year, before moving to Hattiesburg and the Hattiesburg Clinic.

Dr. Waites has twice been president of the medical staff in Hattiesburg, and has been vice president of Hattiesburg Clinic. He is a two-term past-president of the Mississippi affiliate of the American Heart Association and the Southeastern affiliate of the American Heart Association. He directs the cath lab of Forrest General Hospital. His clinical research interest is currently in the field of CT Imaging.
