Tena M. Alonzo serves as director of research and co-director of the Palliative Care for Advanced Dementia: A Model Teaching Unit program of the Beatitudes Campus, a continuing care retirement community, in Phoenix, Arizona.

She holds a faculty position for the residency rotation in palliative care teaching program, which educates hospital residents in best practice in the medical management of people with advanced dementia. Her work has been featured in the book Palliative Care for Advanced Alzheimer's - Dementia Guidelines and Standards for Evidence-Based Care, TheGerontologist, the Journal of Hospice and Palliative Nursing, theJournal of the Arizona Geriatric Society and the NY Times. She serves on several committees supporting the needs of people with dementia in the Phoenix area. 

Ms. Alonzo received her undergraduate degree in psychology and MA in gero- psychology from Northern Arizona University. She is currently pursuing a PhD in ethics.
