Sandy Marks is Senior Assistant Director of Federal Affairs in the American Medical Association’s Washington office. She is part of the AMA team advocating for federal policy changes to respond to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Sandy is also responsible for advocating AMA positions on Medicare physician payment policy, with a particular focus on telehealth and alternative payment models, and played a key role in the AMA’s successful campaign to eliminate the Sustainable Growth Rate formula. She contributed to the AMA’s joint paper with the Center for Healthcare Quality and Payment Reform, “A Guide to Physician-Focused Alternative Payment Models,” and organized AMA workshops for physicians on alternative payment models. She also handles federal advocacy on efforts to combat the opioid epidemic and other public policy issues, as well as liaison with federal agencies. Sandy has an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and began her professional career as a health policy research analyst at Northwestern.
