Dr. Richard Friedman is a professor of clinical psychiatry and the director of the psychopharmacology clinic at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York. He is also a regular contributor to the New York Times, where he writes on behavior science for the paper's science section.                                                     

His research interests include the psychopharmacology of depression and anxiety disorders, the neurobiology of mood disorders, treatment-resistant depression and novel pharmacologic agents for depression and anxiety disorders.

He completed his medical degree at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
