Dr. Raymond P. Onders is an associate professor of surgery and an associate professor of medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio.  He is also the director of Minimally Invasive Surgery at University Hospitals Case Medical Center.

Dr. Onders is also a researcher who has focused on ways to help people breathe naturally using their own diaphragm. He has over one hundred peer-reviewed papers, book chapters and published abstracts. The late Christopher Reeve was one of Dr. Onders' first research subjects in helping spinal cord injured patients breathe without a ventilator. His advancements in the technology of pacing the diaphragm has lead to numerous patents, and he is a co-founder of Synapse Biomedical, which is helping to bring this technology to patients. His work has recently earned him the Walter and Margaret Remen Chair of Surgical Innovation at University Hospitals Case Medical Center.
