Professor Hans-Peter Hartung is Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurology at Heinrich-Heine University of Düsseldorf, Germany, a position he has held since 2001. He is also Medical Director of the Department of Conservative Medicine at Düsseldorf University Hospital. Professor Hartung is in charge of two busy inpatient departments and a range of outpatient clinics; he also oversees various research activities relating to MS, Parkinson’s and movement disorders.
Professor Hartung’s clinical and translational research interests lie in neuroimmunology, with particular interests in multiple sclerosis, immune neuropathies and the development of neural repair promoting strategies. He has authored and co-authored more than 900 articles in peer-reviewed journals, highlighted by his ‘Highly Cited Researcher 2017’ status (Web of Science).
Professor Hartung was also President of ECTRIMS and has served on numerous executive boards including the European Charcot Foundation, the International Society of Neuroimmunology and the Peripheral Nerve Society. He is also a member of the Editorial Boards for a number of international Journals.
