Niren Angle, MD

    Dr. Niren Angle is associate professor of surgery, chief of vascular and endovascular surgery and director of the Vascular Ultrasound Laboratory at University of California, San Diego (UCSD).                

    Dr. Angle is a vascular surgeon with advanced training and experience in treating a broad range of blood vessel diseases and disorders, including aneurysms, arterial occlusive disease and ischemia. He performs the most advanced and least invasive techniques for diagnosing vascular problems as well as the latest open and minimally invasive surgical treatments for vascular problems. He is certified in both general surgery and vascular surgery by the American Board of Surgery.

    Dr. Angle's primary research interest is in vascular biology, or the behavior of cells in the blood vessels in health and disease. In the vascular biology research laboratory he has established at UCSD, he studies the most fundamental characteristics of endothelial and smooth muscle cell function. He investigates the causes of blockages in the arteries, such as growth factors that may cause blood vessel cells to multiply. 

    For the outstanding patient care he provides, Dr. Angle was selected by his peers as one of San Diego's "Top Doctors" for the last three years in a row. Dr. Angle received his medical degree from Loyola University of Chicago Stritch School of Medicine.
