Dr. Mauro Pittiruti is a surgeon of the Catholic University Hospital in Rome, coordinator of a multi-professional vascular access team that inserts more than 7,000 central venous access devices per year. He works in the field of venous access since almost 40 years, being co-founder of the Italian Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (SINPE), of the Italian Group of Venous Access Devices (GAVeCeLT) and of the WoCoVA Foundation (World Conference of Vascular Access). He is the author of more than one hundred papers, of several book chapters and of two books on venous access. He received the Herbst Award for Excellence in Vascular Access in 2009.
