Linda Siminerio, RN, PhD, CDE

    Registered nurse and certified diabetes educator Dr. Linda M. Siminerio is director of the Univesity of Pittsburgh Diabetes Institute, and an associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and the School of Nursing.

    Dr. Siminerio's primary research topics include diabetes education, diabetes translation into community interventions, pediatric diabetes care and education, and the psychosocial and behavioral aspects of diabetes.

    In her role at the Diabetes Institute, Dr. Siminerio has organized 44 diabetes self-management education programs throughout western Pennsylvania, and for the US military at Wilford Hall Medical Center at the Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. She has worked with the UPMC Diabetes Inpatient Safety Committee to train staff nurses on diabetes education.

    Dr. Siminerio is the author of numerous books and scientific publications in her field and is the author of the National Standards for Diabetes Education and the International Diabetes Standards and Curriculum. She is senior vice president for the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and served as chair of the IDF World Congress in 2009. She was also editor-in-chief of Diabetes Forecast, and a past president of Health Care and Education for the American Diabetes Association.
