Dr. Lawrence C. Hurst is professor and chairman of orthopaedic surgery and chief of hand surgery at Stony Brook School of Medicine Health Sciences Center. He received his MD from the University of Vermont, and completed his internship at university of Utah Affiliated Hospital, his residency at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and his hand fellowship at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, New York Orthopaedic Hospital.
Dr. Hurst is board certified in orthopaedic surgery with added qualification in surgery of the hand. He is a member of the Robert E. Carroll Hand Club; NY Society for Surgery of Hand; American Society for Surgery of Hand; American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons; and the Orthopaedic Research Society.
Dr. Hurst's research interests include the safe and efficacious use of collagenase treatment in Dupuytren's disease.He is widely-published in peer-reviewed journals, has authored numerous book and book chapters, including the chapter on Dupuytren's disease in the 6th edition of Green's Operative Hand Surgery.
