Dr. Kevin B. Weiss is president and CEO of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). ABMS oversees the process by which more than 750,000 US physicians receive and maintain their specialty-based board certifications.

For more than 20 years, Dr. Weiss has devoted his medical career to quality and access issues in primary care, with a specific emphasis on asthma. He currently serves on the National Committee for Quality Assurance Clinical Performance Measures, the Executive Committee of the American Medical Association Physician's Consortium for Performance Improvement and is a member of the AQA Steering Committee. Dr. Weiss helped found the Chicago Patient Safety Forum and served as its first chairperson. He developed the first US Masters Program in Patient Safety and Healthcare Quality at Northwestern University. 

Dr. Weiss is an American College of Physicians Board of Regents member and has served on Institute of Medicine Committees which developed the reports, "Crossing the Quality Chasm" and "Identifying Priority Areas for Quality Improvement." He also serves as a member of the Board of the Education Council for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

Dr. Weiss also holds an appointment as professor of clinical medicine in the division of general medicine and in the Institute for Healthcare Studies in the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University.
