Kevin Kerber, MD

    Dr. Kevin A. Kerber is assistant professor in the department of neurology at the University of Michigan Health System. He directs the Department of Neurology Dizziness Clinic, and is co-director of the Balance Disorders Clinical and Research Program in the Department of Neurology. Dr. Kerber joined the faculty at University of Michigan in 2005.

    Dr. Kerber received his medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 2000. He completed a neurology residency at the University of Michigan (UM), and a neuro-otology fellowship at UCLA, under the directorship of Dr. Robert W. Baloh.

    Dr. Kerber’s research and clinical interests center on the presentation of dizziness, which include a number of disorders that typically involve the cerebellum, brain stem, or peripheral vestibular structures. His previous research with Dr. Baloh at UCLA led to important discoveries about balance disorders in the elderly, inherited and sporadic ataxia syndromes, and oculomotor physiology. Dr. Kerber’s current research focus is using health services research approaches to optimize patient care and healthcare utilization for dizziness presentations. His work is supported by a National Institutes of Health K23 research grant (K23RR024009). Mentors on this career development award include Dr. Lewis B. Morgenstern, director of the Stroke Program and professor of neurology, emergency medicine and neurosurgery at UM, and Dr. A. Mark Fendrick, professor of internal medicine and health management and policy.

    Dr. Kerber has been an invited speaker on the local and national level. He has presented seminars on the topic of dizziness to the Michigan Neurological Association and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Dr. Kerber is a disease-related expert on the topic of neuro-otology for the media and public relations team of the American Academy of Neurology. He has also served as an ad hoc reviewer for national and international medical journals. 

    Dr. Kerber’s clinical and research skills have been acknowledged by the following honors/awards: John A. Hartford/American Federation for Aging Research Medical Student Scholar, Intern of the Year Award, and chief resident position during neurology residency.
