Dr. Karl E. Steinberg is board certified in family medicine with a CAQ in hospice and palliative medicine. He is president and CEO of Stone Mountain Medical Associates, in the San Diego County city of Oceanside, California. Dr. Steinberg is also associate medical director at Scripps Coastal Medical Group, in Vista, California, where he is a full-time long-term care specialist leading a team of four doctors, a nurse practitioner and a PA in caring for residents in about 15 skilled facilities and many assisted living facilities. In addition, he is medical director at Village Square in San Marcos, California, and Las Villas de Carlsbad skilled nursing facilities in San Marcos and Carlsbad, California, respectively.

Dr. Steinberg is editor-in-chief of AMDA's periodical, Caring for the Ages, which has a monthly print circulation of over 40,000, and is on the editorial advisory board for JAMDA. He is clinical faculty, family medicine residency programs at the University of California San Diego and Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton.

Dr. Steinberg received his bachelors in biochemistry and molecular biology from Harvard, and received his MD from Ohio State. He completed training in family medicine at the University of California San Diego. He is immediate past president, California Association of Long Term Care Medicine (CALTCM), and is an active member of the California Physician Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment Task Force and the San Diego County Medical Society Bioethics Commission. Dr. Steinberg frequently serves as a medical expert consultant and witness.

He is a member of the American Medical Directors Association;California Association of Long Term Care Medicine, American Geriatrics Society, Gerontological Society of America, American Academyof Hospice and Palliative Medicine, American Academy of Family Physicians, California Association of Health Facilities, California Medical Association and the International Psychogeriatric Association.
