Joseph Maroon, MD

    Dr. Joseph Maroon is a board certified clinical professor of neurological surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where he is the Heindl Scholar in neuroscience. He has been the team neurosurgeon for the 2009 NFL world champion Pittsburgh Steelers for the last 20 years. Dr. Maroon has been honored around the world for his research and clinical care in the field of neurosurgery, and in 1999 was inducted into the Lou Holtz Upper Ohio Valley Hall of Fame, along with Joe Montana and Kareem Abdul-Jabaar. In May, 2009, he was inducted into the Western Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.

    Dr. Maroon is on the board of directors of Mylan Laboratories, manufacturer of generic drugs, and chairman of the scientific advisory board to the General Nutrition Corporation. He is also the medical director of Xenomis, a company partnered with Harvard University to develop natural products to enhance endurance and memory. He has written over 250 papers and 40 book chapters. His most recent books include Fish Oil: The Natural Anti-Inflammatory (Basic Health Publications, 2006).
