Joseph A. Lieberman III, M.D., MPH, is Professor of Family Medicine at Jefferson Medical College, of Thomas Jefferson University, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He received his BS degree from Georgetown University, his MD from Jefferson Medical College and his Masters of Public Health from UMDNJ/Rutgers University. He completed his postgraduate training in his home town of Allentown, Pa., at Sacred Heart Hospital, and his Fellowship at the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, DC. He is a member of AOA Honor Medical Society. Prior to accepting his present position, at his Alma Mater, he was Professor and Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Prior to that he had been in the private practice of Family Medicine in Allentown for ten years, which immediately followed his service in the Medical Corps of the United States Air Force.
A frequent contributor to the Medical literature, his publications and presentations of books, book chapters, papers, educational CDs, audio and video tapes and films number into the hundreds. He is co-author of the popular textbook The Fifteen Minute hour: Therapeutis Talk in Primary Care, now in its fourth edition. He also serves on the Editorial Boards and Editorial Review Boards of a number of prestigious Medical Journals including, but not limited to, JAMA, The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry , the Journal of Family Practice, Annals of Internal Medicine and the Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine..
Dr. Lieberman has also served as President of both the New Jersey and Delaware Academies of Family Physicians. The recipient of many awards and honors, he has twice received both the Exceptional Merit Award from UMDNJ and the Medical Society of Delaware's President's Award as well as a special Tribute from the State of Delaware's Senate and House of Representatives.
