John Rumsfeld, MD, PhD

    Dr. John Rumsfeld is the chief science officer and chair of the National Cardiovascular Data Registries (NCDR). Dr. Rumsfeld also serves on the board of trustees of the American College of Cardiology (ACC). In addition, Dr. Rumsfeld is vice-chair of the American Heart Association (AHA) Quality of Care and Outcomes Research Council, and vice-chair of the ACC/AHA Task Force on Performance Measures.

    Dr. Rumsfeld is co-director of the Colorado Cardiovascular Outcomes Research group, staff cardiologist at the Denver Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center, and is professor of medicine at the University of Colorado at Denver Health Sciences Center.

    Within the Veterans Health Administration, Dr. Rumsfeld is national director for the VA Cardiovascular Assessment, Reporting and Tracking Program, and national clinical coordinator for the VA Ischemic Heart Disease Quality Enhancement Research Initiative.

    Dr. Rumsfeld received his medical degree from the University of Chicago (1991) and doctoral degree in epidemiology from the University of Colorado (1999). He did internal medicine internship and residency at the University of California, San Francisco (1991-1994), and cardiology fellowship at the University of Colorado (1995-1999).
