JoAnn V.  Pinkerton, MD
    Dr. Pinkerton is the Division Director of Midlife Health Center, Professor of Obstetrics/Gynecology at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia, fellow of ACOG and Executive Director of North American Menopause Society (NAMS). Recent awards include the 2013 UVA Sharon Hostler Women in Leadership award, BEST DOCTORs in America since 2010, Castle Connolly Top Doctor 2015 and American Library Association Award for her Understanding Midlife Health. Published more than 90 peer-reviewed publications, 70 abstracts, 30 invited papers, and 11 invited chapters. She has served as PI for over 30 clinical trials on treatment of vasomotor symptoms with hormonal and nonhormonal therapies. Editorial boards include Menopause (Associate Editor), Journal of Women’s Health (section editor), OBG Management, and Climacteric. International committees include IMS scientific planning committee, 2011.National committees include: NAMS Board of Trustees, President in 2008-09, and Scientific Chair for the 2008 NAMS Annual Meeting, 2016 NAMS Scientific Planning Committee, NAMS Awards Committee, President Elect for the South Atlantic Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and 2016 Scientific Chair. Invited participant for the NIH visionary retreat. Co-author for the NAMS 2015 Guidelines on NonHormonal Therapy for Vasomotor symptoms, NAMS 2013 Guidelines for VulvoVaginal Atrophy, Endocrine Society 2015 Clinical Practice Guideline for Treatment of Symptoms of the Menopause, soon to be published Endocrine Society Bioidentical Hormone Therapy Position Statement and the Endocrine Society 2010 Scientific Statement on Postmenopausal hormone therapy. She is Chair for the 2016 North American Menopause Society Position Statement on Hormone Therapy, bringing together diverse experts from many different disciplines to move the conversation about hormone therapy forward for menopausal women. She has been the leader in creation of innovative programs at the University of Virginia have included- the Teen Health Center in 1986, the Menopause Clinic in 1989 and, in 1994, the successful multidisciplinary Midlife Health Center, now in its 22nd year. In 2015, Becker’s Hospital Review awarded a national citation for University of Virginia for Women’s Health, highlighting the Women’s Midlife Health Center. Within her community, she remains committed to educational program for midlife women. She developed five Women’s Midlife Health Festivals and, since 2013, biannual Midlife Community Educational Symposiums.
