J. Randolph Hecht, MD

    Dr. J. Randolph Hecht is a Professor of Clinical Medicine and the Carol and Saul Rosenzweig Chairperson for Cancer Therapies Development at UCLA. He is the Director of the UCLA GI Oncology Program.

    Dr. Hecht’s clinical and research interests have been exclusively the treatment of cancers of the gastrointestinal tract. Based on translational research from the UCLA Translational Oncology Research laboratories, Dr. Hecht has developed and lead trials with gene therapies, antiangiogenic drugs, growth factor inhibitors, and other novel agents in esophageal, gastric, pancreatic, and colorectal cancers. Dr. Hecht is currently the global Principal Investigator for an international randomized phase 2 trial for patients with second-line metastatic colorectal cancer using an antibody to LOXL2. Dr. Hecht serves on the medical advisory board and has spoken for the national colorectal cancer advocacy group, Chris4Life.

    Dr. Hecht earned an MD from the Eastern Virginia Medical School and completed an internship and residency at Northwestern University and the McGaw Medical Center in Chicago, a gastroenterology fellowship at the Pritzker School of Medicine – University of Chicago, and a gastroenterology and medical oncology fellowship at UCLA.
