Gary M. Freedman, MD

Dr. Freedman is a graduate of Temple University School of Medicine. He completed an internship in internal medicine at Abington Memorial Hospital and a residency in radiation oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center. Prior to his appointment at Penn, Dr. Freedman was an associate director of the breast evaluation center and the program director of the radiation oncology residency and fellowship at Fox Chase Cancer Center. Dr. Freedman has served as a principal investigator for novel clinical trials including developing intensity-modulated radiation therapy and accelerated radiation therapy for breast cancer. He has presented his research at national oncology meetings, as well as published in international medical journals. At Penn’s Abramson Cancer Center, Dr. Freedman is part of the breast cancer radiation oncology team and will collaborate with the multidisciplinary surgical and medical oncology teams. With his experience as a regional and national leader in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, Dr. Freedman is expanding Penn's clinical treatment and research programs in breast cancer. He has been awarded the Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology Educator of the Year Award and has an active role in the teaching and mentoring of medical students, residents and young investigators in radiation oncology at Penn Medicine. Dr. Freedman is a member of several professional and scientific societies, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group, and American Radium Society
