Dr. Gail Austin Cooney is the medical director of Hospice of Palm Beach County, an independent, not-for-profit hospice in West Palm Beach, Florida, with Hospice of Palm Beach County is an independent, not-for-profit hospice in West Palm Beach, Florida, with a 36-bed freestanding inpatient unit and five hospital-based inpatient units, in addition to home, nursing home, assisted living, and Hispanic care teams.

Dr. Cooney received her medical degree from the Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minnesota. She completed residencies in internal medicine and neurology at Emory University and a neuro-oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

Dr. Cooney is a fellow and past-president of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She serves as chair of the ethics committees of the Hospice of Palm Beach County and the Good Samaritan Medical Center, and has served on the ethics committees of the Palm Beach County Medical Society and Intracoastal Health Systems. She has been published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society and others, and has blogged for the website The Huffington Post.
