Fred Tenover, PhD
    Dr. Tenover is a member of the Senior Biomedical Research Service of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, where he serves as the Associate Director for Laboratory Science of the Division of Health Care Quality Promotion in the National Center for Infectious Diseases. He is also Director of the World Health Organization's Collaborating Centre for Global Monitoring of Antimicrobial Resistance and Adjunct Professor, Division of Epidemiology, Emory University, Rollins School of Public Health. Previously, he served as Chief, Molecular Biology and Associate Chief, Microbiology, at the Seattle Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Seattle, Washington, where he was also an Associate Professor, Department of Laboratory Medicine, and Adjunct Associate Professor, Department of Microbiology, at the University of Washington. Dr. Tenover received has B.S. from the University of Dayton, Dayton, OH, and M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Rochester, Rochester, NY. He was a Post Doctoral Fellow in Clinical Microbiology and Public Health at the University of Washington. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Medical Microbiology. Dr. Tenover received the John E. Dlugos Memorial Award of Excellence in Biology (University of Dayton) and was a National Research Service Award Trainee. He received an American Society for Microbiology President's Fellowship, and later was a Guest Scientist at the Armed Forces Research Institute for Medical Research in Bangkok, Thailand. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, a Fellow of the Infectious Disease Society of America, a former Foundation Lecturer for the American Society for Microbiology; and received an Outstanding Unit Citation from the National Center for Infectious Diseases. Dr. Tenover also received the Becton Dickinson Award for Outstanding Research in Clinical Microbiology from the American Society for Microbiology in 2000. Dr. Tenover is a voting member of the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute, Subcommittee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing, and the Chair of the Working Group on Fastidious Organisms. He serves on the editorial boards of Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy and Microbial Drug Resistance. He was Editor of DNA Probes for Infectious Diseases, CRC Press; Co-Editor, Diagnostic Molecular Microbiology, American Society for Microbiology; Co-Editor, Manual of Clinical Microbiology, 6th and 7th Editions, and coeditor of Molecular Microbiology: Principles and Applications. He has been author/co-author of over 260 journal articles and 31 book chapters.
