Bruce Miller, MD

    Dr. Bruce L. Miller is the A.W. and Mary Margaret Clausen Distinguished Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF), where he runs the Memory and Aging Center and directs the NIH- and State of California-designated Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. Dr. Miller also co-directs the Institute for Neurodegenerative Disease at UCSF and is the medical director at the John Douglas French Foundation for Alzheimer’s Disease Research.

    Dr. Miller is a behavioral neurologist with an interest in the differential diagnosis and treatment of dementia, and oversees a dementia program with over 100 employees. His expertise in frontotemporal dementia and prion disorders have made UCSF a major referral site for patients with atypical dementing conditions, and Dr. Miller works closely with basic scientists at UCSF on developing a cure for both conditions.

    Dr. Miller has authored more than 325 research papers, 60 chapters, and four books. He has received numerous awards for research, clinical care, teaching and community service, including: the Humanitarian Award from the John Douglas French Foundation for Alzheimer’s Research; Distinguished Service to Minorities from Charles Drew University; Certificate of Achievement for Teaching, Research and Clinical Care for Patients in Los Angeles County 1985-1998, from the Los Angeles County Supervisors; the UCSF residents Golden Toe Award, for Neurology Residency Teaching; and the Jay Foster, Benjamin Lieberman, Turken and T. Evans Wyckoff honorary lectureships.

    Additionally, Dr. Miller has given keynote lectures at the American Association for Neurology’s "Decade of the Brain" series, the British Neuropsychiatry Association and the International Alzheimer’s Association’s meeting. He collaborates with investigators across the world, including neurologists, in Greece, Turkey, England, and Korea.
