Andre B. Lalonde, MD
    Dr. Lalonde began his career as an ob/gyn at McGill Royal Victoria and LaSalle hospitals, where he helped create the 1st integrated birthing center, which since bears his name. Dr. Lalonde held the position of Executive Vice-President of the SOGC for 22 years. In this role, he participated in the development and implementation of several maternal and newborn care risk management programs (MOREOB, ALARM), which are currently implemented across Canada. He was also co-editor of a textbook on post-partum hemorrhage, as well as education manuals on capacity building and for the SOGC’s ALARM International Program. Dr. Lalonde played a key role in disseminating the SOGC’s ALARM International Program in over twenty low resource countries, with the aim of addressing maternal mortality and morbidity, and strengthening obstetric/ gynecological societies. He was committee chair of the FIGO Saving Mothers and Newborns Project, where he assisted with the implementation of the project in 10 countries. Dr. Lalonde has been a board member and maternal health consultant for WHO, UN, PMNCH and other agencies. Throughout his career, he was active in forming partnerships with family physicians, nurses, and midwives working in the field of reproductive health at the national and international level. In his leadership position at the SOGC, Dr. Lalonde developed the SOGC’s Aboriginal Health Initiative and supported the Wabano Aboriginal center. He has enjoyed developing guidelines and policy statements to advance women’s health, with the collaboration of colleagues in Canada and around the world. Currently, he is working on a project for development of PPH simulation workshops for low-resource countries. Dr. Lalonde is recipient of distinguished service awards from ACOG, FIGO, as well as the Queen Elizabeth Jubilee medal, and numerous fellowships. He is grateful for the support of SOGC staff and members, and FIGO.
